Turning Destination Marketing into Arabic Travel Inspiration

The Clients

I worked with two tourism representation and advisory companies serving the UAE and wider GCC markets: Gulf Reps and Tiri Consultancy.

Through Gulf Reps, I supported a diverse portfolio of international tourism and hospitality brands, including:

The Challenge

These destinations needed to reach Arabic-speaking travellers in a way that felt useful and inspiring, rather than relying solely on traditional promotional content.

The objective was to build destination awareness, educate potential travellers and position each client as a desirable option for their next holiday.

The Solution: Mustakshif

We created Mustakshif, an Arabic social media platform dedicated to helping audiences discover destinations around the world.

Rather than presenting each client through isolated advertisements, Mustakshif gave us an editorial platform through which we could naturally introduce destinations, experiences, hotels and travel itineraries.

The content was distributed through:

  • Arabic social media content

  • Destination guides and travel inspiration

  • Monthly newsletters

  • Strategically targeted paid campaigns

  • Client-specific promotional features

This approach allowed us to promote multiple tourism clients through one trusted, consumer-facing travel platform.

The Results

Across the tourism campaigns managed in 2022, our targeted paid activity generated:

1.8 million users reached on average 356,000 engagements

By combining Arabic content with audience targeting and destination storytelling, we helped international tourism brands increase their visibility among travellers in the UAE and wider region.

Tiri Consultancy worked with its own portfolio of tourism clients.

For Tiri, we developed Bab Al Safar, another Arabic travel platform based on a similar model: creating useful destination-led content while giving tourism clients a credible channel through which to reach Arabic-speaking travellers.

Both Mustakshif and Bab Al Safar demonstrated how tourism representation companies could move beyond corporate communication and build their own consumer-facing media platforms.

How I Would Evolve the Strategy Today

Today, I would take the concept further by building an experience-led content ecosystem around each destination.

Creator-Led Experience Campaigns

I would select travel creators and influencers based on the specific markets each destination wants to attract, then invite them on carefully planned experience trips.

Each trip would be designed to produce:

  • Long-form YouTube episodes

  • Short-form Reels and TikToks

  • First-person travel stories

  • Practical destination guides

  • Hotel and attraction features

  • Detailed itineraries

  • A reusable library of high-quality content

The content would be distributed across the creators’ audiences, the tourism brand’s channels and our own travel platforms—extending its reach while giving the campaign greater authenticity.

A More Cost-Conscious Model

For destinations working with smaller budgets, I would assign one team member as a dedicated travel content creator.

Rather than funding several influencer trips, that person could document the destination from arrival to departure and turn the experience into a complete content series. The footage could then be repurposed across YouTube, social media, newsletters, websites and paid campaigns.

AI could also support research, translation, itinerary development and content repurposing, while the storytelling and first-hand experience remain human.

Searchable Destination Content

Social media creates immediate interest, but a strong tourism strategy should also capture people actively planning their trips.

I would create SEO-focused content such as:

  • Three-, five- and seven-day itineraries

  • Seasonal travel guides

  • Where-to-stay recommendations

  • Destination comparisons

  • Guides for families, couples and solo travellers

  • “Best time to visit” content

  • Practical transport, visa and budgeting information

This would help each destination build long-term visibility through search rather than depending entirely on paid promotion.

An Original YouTube Series

A recurring YouTube series would give the platform a recognisable identity and allow each destination to be presented as a complete story rather than a collection of short promotional clips.

Each episode could follow the full traveller journey—from planning and arrival to accommodation, food, culture and hidden experiences. The long-form episode would then become the source material for dozens of shorter assets across other channels.

The Opportunity

Destination marketing works best when audiences can imagine themselves inside the experience.

By investing in one strong, well-documented journey, tourism brands can create a complete campaign across YouTube, social media, websites, newsletters, SEO and paid advertising.

Organic storytelling builds trust and interest. Strategic paid promotion then extends the strongest content to the audiences most likely to visit—turning destination inspiration into measurable enquiries, bookings and long-term brand awareness.

Every destination has a story worth travelling for. Let's turn yours into a strategy that reaches the right audience.
