Building StayShort.com: A Curated Booking Platform for Dubai Stays

StayShort.com started with a simple idea.
Finding a short-term rental in Dubai shouldn't mean scrolling through hundreds of properties from hundreds of different operators without really knowing what you're going to get.
There was room for something more selective.
A platform bringing together professionally managed holiday homes, starting with Dubai and eventually expanding across the UAE, where the focus wasn't simply on having the largest number of listings. It was about having the right properties, from the right partners, in the right locations.
That became StayShort.com.
Starting With the Right Portfolio
For a booking platform, the first question is obvious: where do the properties come from?
Instead of trying to onboard as many individual listings as possible from day one, StayShort started by selecting an established holiday-home operator as its first major portfolio partner.
AirDXB gave the platform access to a large collection of professionally managed apartments, villas and townhouses across some of Dubai's most in-demand locations.
This meant StayShort could launch with a strong accommodation base while still developing its own identity, audience and direction as an independent booking platform.
The idea was always bigger than one portfolio.
AirDXB was the starting point.
Building the Platform
The work wasn't just about marketing a website.

We were building the brand, the audience and the booking journey at the same time.
I worked across StayShort's positioning, website, SEO, Google and Meta advertising, email marketing, campaigns, content and overall digital customer journey.
The website became the centre of that ecosystem.
People could discover StayShort through search, paid campaigns, email or individual properties and move directly into browsing availability and booking.
From November 2024 to August 2026, StayShort generated approximately:
1.9 million website views
589,000 users
or roughly 90,000 website views per month.
More importantly, that traffic translated into bookings.

Across 2025 and the first two months of 2026, StayShort recorded approximately 4,857 website and direct bookings, with AED 9.15 million in booking revenue generated in 2025 alone.
For a relatively young platform competing for attention in one of the world's busiest tourism markets, that gave us something important:
proof that people were willing to discover, browse and book through the StayShort ecosystem.
Getting Found in a Crowded Dubai Market
One of the biggest challenges was visibility.
Search for a holiday home, furnished apartment or short-term rental in Dubai and you're competing with some of the largest travel companies in the world.
Trying to outspend them would make very little sense.
So the approach was spread across several channels.
Google Search helped us capture people already looking for accommodation.
SEO built longer-term visibility around Dubai stays, locations and properties.
Meta helped with discovery and remarketing.
Email allowed us to reconnect with an audience we already had.
And seasonal campaigns gave us the flexibility to change the message depending on what was actually happening in the market.
During stronger travel periods, we could lead with destinations, properties and availability.
During Dubai's quieter summer months, the conversation changed to value, flexibility and longer stays.
Marketing a hospitality platform taught me very quickly that you cannot use the same message twelve months of the year.
People don't travel the same way twelve months of the year.
The Website Had to Do More Than Look Good
As StayShort grew, so did what we expected from the website.
It couldn't just be a catalogue of nice apartments.
It had to work as a booking platform.
That meant continuously looking at how people searched, how they moved between properties, what information they needed before booking and where we were creating unnecessary friction.

I worked across the website structure, landing pages, SEO, content and user journey while coordinating the technical side with developers and booking-system partners.
Most recently, the platform was rebuilt to give StayShort greater control over its direct payment journey while keeping its property and availability infrastructure connected behind the scenes.
This is one of the areas where I think marketing and product overlap.
Getting someone to the website is marketing.
Making sure they can actually find what they want, trust it and book it easily is also marketing.
Building an Audience We Could Speak to Again
One of the most valuable things about building StayShort as its own platform was creating a direct relationship with the customer.

Every website visitor, enquiry and booking gave us more insight into the people actually looking for accommodation in Dubai.
Email became particularly useful here.
Instead of constantly paying to reach the same type of traveller again, we could speak directly to previous and prospective guests about seasonal stays, available properties and longer booking periods.
Over time, that creates a very different kind of asset.
You're no longer only building traffic.
You're building an audience.

Beyond Leisure Travel
We also started looking beyond the traditional holidaymaker.
Dubai has a huge population of people arriving for work, relocation, extended projects and temporary assignments.
That opened another opportunity for StayShort.
We developed the corporate accommodation proposition around furnished apartments, flexible stay periods and professionally managed properties for companies requiring accommodation for employees, executives and visiting teams.
The same inventory could therefore serve very different customer journeys.
A family spending two weeks in Dubai.
Someone relocating to the UAE.
A consultant staying for six weeks.
A company placing several employees.
The platform didn't need to become a different brand for each audience.
It needed to make the right inventory easy to find.
The Next Stage Was Partnerships
Once the platform, audience and booking infrastructure were established, the next step was always going to be expansion.
The plan was to begin selectively onboarding additional holiday-home companies rather than relying predominantly on one portfolio.
Not everyone.
The point of StayShort was never to become another endless property marketplace.
The idea was to work with selected operators whose properties and guest experience matched what we wanted the platform to represent.
We were also exploring partnerships with travel creators and influencers, giving them a more meaningful role than simply producing one sponsored video.
A creator recommending where to stay in Dubai already influences the booking journey.
The opportunity is to connect that influence directly with curated accommodation.
From there, the plan was to expand beyond Dubai and introduce selected stays across more cities and destinations in the UAE.
Those conversations were interrupted by the recent regional situation across the GCC, and the expansion plans were temporarily put on hold.
They weren't cancelled.
When conditions allow, the plan remains to resume partner onboarding and continue expanding StayShort across holiday-home operators, creators and UAE destinations.
Where I See StayShort Going?
I don't think StayShort needs to become the biggest accommodation website in the region.
There are already enough platforms competing on volume.
I think its opportunity is in selection.
Selected properties.
Selected holiday-home partners.
Selected creators.
Selected destinations.
And eventually, a much stronger layer of recommendations around what to do, where to go and how to experience each destination.
That could mean a creator's Dubai edit with the properties they recommend.
A collection for people staying in Dubai for a month.
A weekend in Ras Al Khaimah.
A design-led collection of UAE stays.
Corporate accommodation.
Family stays.
Beach stays.
Longer escapes.
The platform becomes less about searching through thousands of listings and more about helping people find the right stay.
The Results So Far
1.9M Website views since November 2024
589K Website users
4,857 Website + direct bookings across 2025 and Jan–Feb 2026
AED 9.15M Booking revenue generated in 2025
What started as a Dubai short-term rental platform has already proven that it can attract an audience and generate meaningful booking revenue.
The next chapter is about widening the selection without losing what made the idea interesting in the first place.
Not everything. Just the right stays.
